“Old West” by Richard Bausch provides an imaginative narration of Shane by Joey Starrett. Joey is a professional storyteller, and for most of his eighty years he had been telling Shane’s story. However, in the “Old West” he confesses that his story was far from the truth and now narrates the real story. Shane came back to the valley after twelve years of disappearing. The comeback met several changes, as Joey’s father had died of cholera, and Joey’s crazy mother who was a bit deaf was living in a broken homestead together with Joey. Shane return sees her into a bounty hunter looking for Bagley, a famous preacher in the region. Bagley is talented and a role model to Joey. One time, Bagley heard Joey telling the story of Shane in a saloon and told Joey that he was exaggerating. The worst happened when gunshots were heard taking away the life of Shane.
