Sustainability: Summary Of The Lectures

Other (Not Listed) Instructions:

The ESS Lecture Reflections are an ongoing exploration of your definition of sustainability as it evolves over the course of the semester. Every Thursday evening you will hear a speaker who brings a different perspective to the question of sustainability. In these reflections, consider how that speaker has informed your own view.
Each lecture reflection submission will address two or three ESS lectures. Each lecture reflection must briefly summarize the key points of each lecture that are relevant to your paper, and an integrated discussion of the lectures. You must also incorporate the questions and discussion component of each lecture. The reflections will contain 1350 to 1650 words (5-7 pages) per submission for three lectures (900 to 1100 words for two lectures).

Sustainability Name Affiliation Course Tutor Date Sustainability Introduction Sustainability is the study of natural systems functioning in an attempt to maintain diversity and gain maximum balance in ecology. The process involves how human beings use the resources available in the environment to sustain modern ways of living without having to strain or lack some basic needs. However, I have learned that human civilization has damaged the ever balanced environment in various ways like pollution leading to severe impacts on the chances of human survival (EnvironmentalScience.org, 2019). Sustainability takes into account of how we can protect the natural world from destruction and enhance sustainable living for the present and future generations with the environment around us. Summary of the Lectures I believe that the current ways of living differ from the previous ways implemented by predecessors. Individuals living in urban centers consume a lot of natural resources and the rapid consumption may lead to depletion. For instance, people in urban areas consume a lot of power than the people in the rural setting due to various aspects like continuous lighting of the streets at night and heating in the houses which are no necessary for individuals living in rural areas. I don’t mean that the urban people are the only ones using natural resources but rather a slight improvement in the rate of consumption is desired for changes. The three lectures pointed out on the main aim of sustainable development as focusing on the aspect of making ends meet for the highly competing needs and the urge to promote technological and economic evolvements as we also value the future generations (EnvironmentalScience.org, 2019). For us to attain a balanced and comfortable life whereby every person can satisfy their needs appropriately, we need to protect the environment from damage. I am certain that Sustainability does not only major on the environment but also on the general welfare of society to ensure that people and areas do not suffer from environmental legislation by studying the effects of human activities and getting solutions to avoid long term consequences. Discussion of the Lectures I agree with the professor on the fact that a wide range of political ideas results in differences in economic development. In this case, most people have different ways of achieving economic stability and everyone tends to believe that their economic idea is sound and correct. Looking at the different levels of living standards in society, I observed a major mistake whereby people do not think of the consequences of how some decisions may affect the business world and the availability of jobs. We should always focus on the effects posed on the employments patterns before making any decisions. For instance, poor investments will result in a lack of jobs leading to low living standards. I made conclusions on the aspect after realizing that economic instability is originating from the implementation of unviable plans. I think developing economies should provide incentives to all businesses to ensure that they reach the sustainability guidelines required in the field above the normal legislations (EnvironmentalScience.org, 2019). I like one of the ideas mention...
