Research Proposal Instructions:

Part E & F
E. In 500‐750 words (not including the title page and reference page), apply a change model to the implementation plan. Include the following:
Rogers' diffusion of innovation theory is a particularly good theoretical framework to apply to an EBP project. However, students may also choose to use change models, such as Duck's change curve model or the transtheoretical model of behavioral change. Other conceptual models presented such as a utilization model (Stetler's model) and EBP models (the Iowa model and ARCC model) can also be used as a framework for applying your evidence‐based intervention in clinical practice.
Apply one of the above models and carry your implementation through each of the stages, phases, or steps identified in the chosen model.
In addition, create a conceptual model of the project. Although you will not be submitting the conceptual model you design in Topic 5 with the narrative, the conceptual model should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.
F. In 500‐750 words (not including the title page and reference page), provide a description of the methods to be used to implement the proposed solution. Include the following:
Describe the setting and access to potential subjects. If there is a need for a consent or approval form, then one must be created. Although you will not be submitting the consent or approval form(s) in Topic 5 with the narrative, the consent or approval form(s) should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.
Describe the amount of time needed to complete this project. Create a timeline. Make sure the timeline is general enough that it can be implemented at any date. Although you will not be submitting the timeline in Topic 5 with the narrative, the timeline should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.
Describe the resources (human, fiscal, and other) or changes needed in the implementation of the solution. Consider the clinical tools or process changes that would need to take place. Provide a resource list. Although you will not be submitting the resource list in Topic 5 with the narrative, the resource list should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.
Describe the methods and instruments, such as a questionnaire, scale, or test to be used for monitoring the implementation of the proposed solution. Develop the instruments. Although you will not be submitting the individual instruments in Topic 5 with the narrative, the instruments should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.
Explain the process for delivering the (intervention) solution and indicate if any training will be needed.
Provide an outline of the data collection plan. Describe how data management will be maintained and by whom. Furthermore, provide an explanation of how the data analysis and interpretation process will be conducted. Develop the data collection tools that will be needed. Although you will not be submitting the data collection tools in Topic 5 with the narrative, the data collection tools should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.
Describe the strategies to deal with the management of any barriers, facilitators, and challenges.
Establish the feasibility of the implementation plan. Address the costs for personnel, consumable supplies, equipment (if not provided by the institute), computer related costs (librarian consultation, database access, etc.), and other costs (travel, presentation development). Make sure to provide a brief rationale for each. Develop a budget plan. Although you will not be submitting the budget plan in Topic 5 with the narrative, the budget plan should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.
Describe the plans to maintain, extend, revise, and discontinue a proposed solution after implementation.

Application of Roger’s Diffusion of Innovation Theory (DOI)
As one of the oldest theories in social sciences, DOI theory is founded on the premise that a product or an idea is adopted through different momentums across the different groups within the target population. Ultimately, the social system or the population adopts the new practice or behavior as part of their daily lives (Zhang et al., 2015). The proposed solution that needs implementation is the introduction of a technique for the reduction of CAUTI rates within the intensive care units that serve post-operative and critically ill adult patients at Houston Methodist Willow brook Hospital. Precisely, the CAUTI implementation entails the introduction of an indwelling catheter care bundles.
Based on Roger’s Diffusion of Innovation Theory, there are five categories of adopters that would need to be considered when implementing the indwelling catheterization bundles. The first category is comprised of innovators. Innovators are the people who are enthusiastic to try out a new way of doing things because they are venturesome, they are risk takers, and are proponents of change for continuous improvement in their practice. At Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, this category would comprise the professionals who work in the ICUs and who are aware of the limitations of the current catheterization practices in terms of preventing CAUTIs. Professionals such as urologists, surgical officers, and perioperative nurses will not need much persuasion or appealing to adopt the indwelling catheter care bundles because they are already familiar with its potential benefits and the downsides of the current practices.
The second category of the targeted population is early adopters. These comprise the opinion leaders who are influential in terms of guiding others to adopt a particular way of doing things. The fact that they hold leadership positions makes them very strategic during the implementation process. Moreover, they already have the knowledge of the changes that are needed for better care of patients and reduction of CAUTI rates within the ICUs. Therefore, the only tools that they may need during the implementation process are the manuals and sheets with information on how to proceed, the changes involved, and the logistics. Within the Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, the early adopters include the nurse managers, the chief financial officer, hospital administrators, and the chief surgical officer.
The third category of adopters as per the DOI theory are the early majority. Although this population is rarely comprised of leaders, the rate at which they adopt new practice is higher than that of the average person. The most important incentive that early majority may need is the evidence of how the innovation takes place either from literature or other success stories that they can relate with (Smith & Findeis, 2013). In terms of the proposed implementation of the indwelling catheter care bundles, the nurses and physicians who are not directly involved in the operations that take place in ICU theaters may require some convincing through refined evidence and success stori...
